Cardiology

The Veterinary Health Center’s cardiology service is temporarily operating on a limited basis.

When feasible, existing cardiac patients, who have previously established care with the VHC cardiology department, will have opportunities to schedule their routine follow up visits with our part-time cardiologist.

Due to limited availability, we are unable to offer in-person appointments with the cardiologist to any non-emergent new patients at this time. However, Telehealth consultation assistance in diagnosis and case management (for veterinarians only) is available upon request: email patient signalment, case summary and any completed diagnostics to cardiology@vet.k-state.edu.

The VHC strives to provide exemplary emergency and specialty services. Therefore, at times when our cardiologist is not on-site, patient transport is not feasible and advanced cardiac evaluation would play a critical role in decision making and proper diagnosis, a VHC faculty member will acquire echocardiographic images. An ACVIM board certified cardiologist will remotely review the acquired images, provide cardiac specific assessment and make patient care recommendations.

For emergency treatment and stabilization, the Veterinary Health Center’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) has oxygen cages and ECG-telemetry monitoring available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
