Kris Richardson has over 25 years experience managing clinical trials in both human and veterinary medicine. Kris was first introduced to research while working as a student at the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine. While working in the Immunophysiology Research Laboratory in the Anatomy and Physiology Department, she found her passion for research in veterinary medicine. Kris received her degree in Veterinary Technology from Colby Community College and her Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Sciences and Industry from K-State's College of Agriculture in 1987. Upon completion of her education, she managed the Swine Nutrition and Reproductive Physiology Laboratory at K-State where she facilitated and executed numerous graduate student’s research projects.

After moving to Colorado, Kris worked as a Research Associate for 10 years in the Medical Oncology Research Laboratory at Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. Kris managed both the clinical and laboratory research for numerous oncological and nutritional research projects for client-owned dogs and cats. This research focused primarily on Hill’s cancer diets as well as being the Central Site for a large, multi-institutional FDA cancer treatment trial. Additionally, Kris served as a Clinical Research Monitor for Bayer Animal Health, where she assisted with the coordination of all facets of this FDA sponsored cancer trial.

For the past 15 years, Kris has managed numerous FDA clinical trials for the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Colorado, Denver. This experience provided her endless opportunities for FDA human clinical trials working closely with solid organ transplant, oncology and intensive care patients. Though the experience was extremely rewarding, Kris’ professional interest remained in veterinary medicine.

Kris is thrilled to be back in the Manhattan community with the opportunity to facilitate clinical trials in veterinary medicine. As the Clinical Trials Coordinator for the VHC, Kris offers support to all investigators with their clinical trials. This can include assistance with study design, IACUC submissions, informed consent forms, CRF generation and data capture, trial promotion and patient enrollment, creating and maintaining study binders, facilitating daily study visit activities and patient follow up with pet owners.

This position serves as a liaison between all members of a research team involved in a trial; from the clients and patients, to the study sponsors, primary investigators, and veterinary technicians. Each project is a team effort ensuring each enrolled patient receives all the required study visit exams, treatments, and sample collections. As the coordinator, Kris is able to assist on all fronts so each trial runs as efficiently as possible to ensure data integrity. You can contact Kris at 785-532-3046 or email ClinicalTrials@vet.k-state.edu.
