Small Animal Surgery Residency

The Veterinary Health Center at Kansas State University offers a three year small animal surgery residency. The surgery section consists of both orthopedic and soft tissue services in which residents participate equally. There are weekly case rounds, journal reviews, Phase 1 study, and formal seminar presentations. Residents are required to participate in after-hours emergency surgical duties on a rotating schedule averaging eight night or weekend on-call shifts each month. Residents are given the opportunity to attend continuing education courses/conferences 1-2 times a year. Funding is available to help cover continuing education expenses.

Resident candidates are selected through the American Association of Veterinary Clinicians (AAVC) Veterinary Internship and Residency Matching Program (VIRMP). Information about position availability, program descriptions and forms needed to apply can be found at the VIRMP web site.
