Small Animal Medicine and Surgery Internship

The Small Animal Rotating Internship at the Veterinary Health Center is a 12-month post-DVM clinical program. Interns rotate through all small-animal services, including zoo/exotics and clinical pathology, if desired. Intern schedules are personalized according to each intern’s intended post-internship professional goals. Interns participate in after-hours emergency duty on a rotating basis and will remain in the hospital overnight. Interns on emergency duty also assist with the oversight of ICU patients and support the small-animal emergency clinician. Faculty clinicians are committed to providing consultation and back-up support for house officers assigned to emergency duty.

Intern and resident candidates are selected through the American Association of Veterinary Clinicians (AAVC) Veterinary Internship and Residency Matching Program (VIRMP). Information about position availability, program descriptions and forms needed to apply can be found on the VIRMP website.
