Shelter Medicine Internship

The Shelter Medicine Internship is a 12-month post-DVM clinical program that will provide an intern with a unique set of service-based experiences, giving them an exceptional foundation for a future in Shelter Medicine. These experiences will be largely comprised of surgery, Shelter Medicine Program Mastery and 4th-year student instruction (both clinical and didactic), along with direct shelter outreach and structured community outreach training to build competency in engaging, educating and collaborating with diverse populations.

Intern and resident candidates are selected through the American Association of Veterinary Clinicians (AAVC) Veterinary Internship and Residency Matching Program (VIRMP). Information about position availability, program descriptions and forms needed to apply can be found on the VIRMP website.
